This year NOSW is pleased to partner with the Berea Food Bank, which provides food and other supplies for our two-week residential sessions.
“The partnership with the New Opportunity School is something that’s vital to our interest in this community,” said Tony Crachiolo, executive director of the food bank. “We think that we need to serve, as the oldest and largest private charity in Berea, as many people who are in need as we possibly can. So it’s a natural partnership for us to be with the New Opportunity School because they’re doing much the same work, lifting all the boats that they can as fast as they can as well as they can, and we are so honored to be a tiny little part of helping that work.”
Staffed entirely by volunteers, the food bank has shifted from receiving food donations to receiving monetary donations, which means it can purchase food at a reduced rate and serve more families. “I can make the money go four to ten times further,” says Crachiolo.
Everyone who comes to the food bank leaves with a week’s worth of food. “We don’t say no to anybody.”
NOSW receives meat, fresh vegetables and other staples that are turned into meals for our women.
